Rafa Mir has turned down the chance to extend his contract at Wolverhampton Wanderers, although a £13 million price-tag could block the striker’s return to La Liga giants Valencia, as reported by Super Deporte.

The irony was lost on absolutely nobody at Molineux.

With Raul Jimenez watching on from the sidelines as Fabio Silva and Willian Jose toiled in his absence, a striker who has played just two league games in three years at Wolves could not stop scoring.

In total, Rafa Mir found the net 16 times on loan at Huesca – a tally made all the more impressive when you consider that the Aragon-based outfit were relegated on the final day of the season.

Mir gave Real Madrid the runaround, scored a stunning hat-trick against Real Valladolid and produced a genuine Goal of the Season contender in May’s clash with Cadiz; a Patrik Schick-style screamer from miles out.

Will La Liga star Rafa Mir ever play for Wolves again?

According to Super Deporte, Wolves have been hard at work in recent weeks, trying to extend Mir’s contract.

But, with the former Spain U21 international rebuffing their advances, the goal-shy Premier League outfit have little choice but to cash in on a man who will be a free agent next summer.

Wolves are asking for £13 million.

And while Valencia would love to re-sign a spring-heeled targetman who spent six years at the Mestalla between 2012 and 2018, the cash-strapped club simply cannot afford to meet Wolves’ demands.

The report adds that Mir is desperate to bring an end to his difficult spell with the Black Country outfit, having failed to adapt to life in the Midlands.

Mir does not feel the confidence of the club either – probably because he has been loaned out in each of the last three seasons.

Interestingly, Wolves have been linked with Valencia duo Goncalo Guedes and Kang-In Lee. Could a swap deal be possible; one that would see Mir go in the other direction?
