Football London claim that Tottenham are blocking a potential summer exit for defender Japhet Tanganga despite his lack of game time – despite interest from the likes of Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and AC Milan ahead of Thursday.
Tanganga, 23, has only managed to be a part of the squad in three of Tottenham’s four Premier League games this term. He is yet to play a single minute of first-team action, acting as an unused sub against Chelsea, Wolves and Forest.
The England Under-21 international has been heavily linked with Forest and Milan. Fabio Paratici is willing to send him on loan. But only with an obligation to buy Tanganga for a fee of £21million. Aston Villa have also been eyeing a move.
However, the latest report – which comes from widely-respected Tottenham reporter Gold – says it looks likely he will remain. Indeed, Spurs have been blocking any approaches for Tanganga’s signature so far this summer window.

What is best for Tanganga this summer? Obviously, sitting on the Spurs bench and perhaps clocking up 10-15 appearances this season is not going to do him any good. He is only on the bench because of Cristian Romero’s knock.
With Romero out, Davinson Sanchez has been promoted to the starting XI – meaning Tanganga has come into the side. But ultimately, when everyone is fit, it is unlikely he even makes the matchday squad. He really needs to leave.
Forest could do with better quality in central defence. Against Spurs, they partnered Joe Worrall, Steve Cook and Scott McKenna. A bit more youthfulness and guile is required. Villa need a replacement for summer signing Diego Carlos.
The Brazilian has suffered an ankle injury which will keep him sidelined for much of the 2022-23 season. Milan, too – but they have moved on to other targets. So, if he has the choice, a move to Villa or Forest would be really helpful.
