Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa are reportedly about to miss out on Rangers defender Calvin Bassey.
Arsenal and Aston Villa want Rangers defender Calvin Bassey.
The Secret Scout reported on July 15 that Arsenal, Ajax, Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester United all want to sign Bassey from Rangers in the summer transfer window.
The Athletic reported yesterday that Aston Villa are also very keen on the 22-year-old, who can operate as a left-back or as a central defender.
However, it seems that Bassey has decided to snub interest from Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton and Manchester United.
Ajax move imminent
Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Ajax are set to sign Bassey from Rangers for an initial transfer fee of €22 million (£19 million).
Ajax won the Eredivisie last season and will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Bassey made 12 starts and two substitute appearances in the Europa League for Ajax last season.
The defender gave two assists in 26 Scottish Premiership for the Gers last season.
Ajax are a massive club, and leaving Rangers for the Dutch side is a step-up for Bassey.
