West Ham United were interested in Porto left back Zaidu Sanusi on deadline day, and he has now had a potential exit blocked.

That’s according to Mercado do Futebol, who claim that Fenerbahce made a move to sign Sanusi this week.

Turkish deadline day was on Wednesday, with their cut-off point a little later than the Premier League’s.

Fenerbahce made their move for Sanusi, seeking a new left back. However, Porto rejected their move for the Nigerian.

Boss Sergio Conceicao is thought to have vetoed the move. Conceicao hasn’t been entirely convinced with Sanusi this season, but has decided to keep him.

West Ham’s pursuit of Sanusi

This has been a tricky few weeks for Sanusi. West Ham United wanted to sign Sanusi on deadline day last month, but no deal materialised.

Porto wanted a huge £17million for Sanusi. That just didn’t fit into West Ham’s budget, and they backed away entirely.

West Ham had forked out big money for both Kurt Zouma and Nikola Vlasic. A third big signing on deadline day just wasn’t going to happen.

Did West Ham need another left back anyway? Aaron Cresswell is reliable and Arthur Masuaku is coming back from injury, so David Moyes has options.

Sanus has now missed out on two potential transfers, and his future will likely come under the spotlight in January too.
