VfL Wolfsburg are reportedly the favourites to sign Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg, who is also rumoured to be a target for both Arsenal and Tottenham.
According to Kicker, the Bundesliga side are eyeing a move for the Swedish international with interest in the 23-year-old midfielder ramping up over the past few days, with Napoli reportedly making an offer to sign Svanberg, with Wolfsburg keen to sign the youngster as a replacement for Xaver Schlager, who recently joined RB Leipzig.
As per the report, Bologna could accept an offer of €10m (£8m) for Svanberg, with Arsenal and Tottenham both also chasing the midfielder, who last season enjoyed a fantastic year in Serie A with Bologna, attracting interest from some big clubs across Europe.
Hailed as a ‘top’ talent by iNews, Svanberg is a regular with the Swedish national team and is regarded by many as one of the nation’s best prospects, with the midfielder a teammate of Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski and a former partner at Bologna with Arsenal titan Takehrio Tomiyasu.
Indeed, Svanberg would have been a bargain signing for Arsenal or Tottenham, but with interest in the Swede fading in recent weeks from the north London duo, Wolfsburg are now in the clear to land the 23-year-old maestro, who is perfect for the Bundesliga.
Svanberg’s versatility and grace on the ball makes him an ideal player for Wolfsburg, who after losing their star midfielder in Schlager are desperate for a suitable replacement, something the Bologna star fits the bill for in almost every sense of the word.
Wolfsburg have done well to beat Arsenal & Tottenham to Svanberg

Svanberg was one of Serie A’s breakout stars last season, and the fact Wolfsburg, who finished 12th in the Bundesliga last season, are the side that now look the most likely to sign the midfielder speaks volume over how impressive this deal could be for the Germans.
Indeed, Arsenal and Tottenham could have done with an extra central midfielder for cheap, alas, Germany looks set to become Svanberg’s new home, with Wolfsburg putting in the word to land the Swede in what could be one of the summer’s best transfers.
