Some West Ham fans on social media have been waxing lyrical about Angelo Ogbonna after the Hammers’ 1-0 win against Everton on New Year’s Day.

The centre-back put in an immense shift against the Toffees, keeping a clean sheet against what is quickly becoming one of the deadliest striker partnerships in the Premier League.

Indeed, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were powerless against West Ham, and that’s down to the incredible work Ogbonna put in at centre-half.

The defender has been on top form throughout this season, earning himself a recall to Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad, while also earning a lot of praise from pundits along the way.

The Hammers continue to pick up strong results, and while they’re not scoring as freely as they were in the early weeks of the season, they still find themselves just a point away from the European qualification spots.

Ogbonna certainly impressed against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, and while stats aren’t everything, the fact that he won the second-most aerial duels of any player on the pitch at Goodison Park shows just how dominant he was, especially when he had to contend with Calvert-Lewin, a man whose aerial prowess has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo’s.

Here’s what West Ham fans have been saying about Ogbonna on social media…
