Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has said on Sky Sports that Jurgen Klopp’s side could still catch Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.
Although Alexander-Arnold has admitted that it is going to be tough for Liverpool to win the Premier League title this season, he is not giving up just yet on the prospect of catching Arsenal.
The England international defender made the comments after Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Leicester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Friday evening.
The Reds are now sixth in the table with 28 points from 16 matches.
Arsenal are at the top of the standings with 40 points from 15 games.
Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold on catching Arsenal
Alexander-Arnold said: “You are hoping for a miracle. If they do have a really, really bad run of form between now and the end of the season, we want to potentially be in a position to catch them.
“I think around this time last year we were about 10 points behind City, and we almost caught them, so anything can happen.”

Title challenge from Liverpool?
In our opinion, it is unlikely that Liverpool will be able to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
The Merseyside club are too far behind.
Yes, Arsenal could suffer a dip in form, but can you really expect Manchester City to do so as well?
Do we really think that both Arsenal and City, who are the defending champions, will slip up in the second half of the season?
No, it simply cannot be.
One thing is for sure, though.
Liverpool are very much in the running for the Premier League top four, and we should not be surprised if they end up third in the table this season.
