Ryan Porteous has told Sky Sports that he does not think a move to Rangers would “go down too well” if he moved to Ibrox – amid reports that Rangers are trying to bring the defender to Glasgow in the January transfer window.
On Thursday night, the need for Porteous was glaring. Rangers lost the majority of duels in the air to Kevin Nisbet, with John Lundstram and James Sands operating as a makeshift combination in the middle of the Rangers defence.
Connor Goldson and Ben Davies have only trained for a combined five days after months and months out injured. Leon King pulled up sick on the morning of the game, John Souttar and Filip Helander remain long-term absentees.
So, with five centre-backs injured, two midfielders were forced to step in. Clyde manager Jim Duffy says he has heard Rangers are trying to sign him – and could get him for just £500k. Now, Porteous has had his say on a move.
“I do really like the idea of moving to a different league and challenging myself. I don’t think that would go down too well, so, we’ll see,” Porteous said, during an interview with Sky Sports ahead of Thursday night’s 3-2 loss at Ibrox.
Porteous does not think Rangers move to Ibrox would go down well
Firstly, Porteous is exactly what Rangers need. A defender that knows Scottish football to a tee, that can win a header and as the Ibrox crowd found out last night – can score a goal. It seems as though Porteous is not as keen.
Out of contract at the end of the season, Rangers need to be trying everything they can to convince him otherwise. Especially because, Porteous is likely to be joining a Championship side over Rangers. Plenty to do for Rangers.
