Rangers could move to bring Ryan Porteous to Ibrox – at least that’s what Clyde manager Jim Duffy claims to have heard lately.

Gers director of football Ross Wilson is under huge pressure.

Wilson’s recent transfer business has been heavily criticised and he had to face the frustration of supporters at the AGM on Tuesday.

Defensive additions have been a particular concern with summer signings John Souttar and Ben Davies suffering injury problems.

Add in that Connor Goldson and Filip Helander have been injured too and Rangers fans just want a defender they can rely on at the back.

Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous may not be the man Rangers fans are desperate for but he could fit the bill.

Porteous hasn’t missed a league game through injury since the 2019-20 season, though suspension have kept him out at times.

The 23-year-old is a divisive figure up in Scotland but looks set to attract major interest in January.

Porteous is out of contract at the end of the season and has communicate his intention to leave Hibernian in 2023.

This feels a little similar to Rangers’ pursuit of John Souttar earlier this year, with the potential of a pre-contract agreement or a window for a cash offer.

There have been limited links with Porteous to Rangers but there has now been a mention.

Clyde boss Jim Duffy is the somewhat surprising source of the rumours, which Rangers fans may take with a pinch of salt.

Duffy told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard this week that he has heard Porteous could be on his way to Ibrox.

Whilst the subject of Porteous signing for Celtic was being discussed, Duffy shared that he has heard Rangers are plotting a move of their own.

Duffy believes Porteous would be a good signing for Celtic, he suggests that it’s ‘on the football grapevine’ that Rangers will sign Porteous in a claim that will leave Gers fans very split given the defender’s mixed reputation up in Scotland.

“Not to throw cold water on Davie’s suggestion (Porteous joining Celtic) because I agree with it, but I have heard that there is a little bit of a suggestion that he may be going across the road to their greatest rivals,” said Duffy. “So, I have heard that, whether there’s that much in it but that’s something that’s in the air on the football grapevine should we say,” he added.
