Brendan Rodgers has paid tribute to Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, after his side’s 3-1 defeat away to the North Londoners this afternoon.
Tottenham moved fourth in the Premier League standings with a relatively comfortable victory over Rodgers’s side.
But it could and would’ve been a different game if not for Lloris.
Leicester started much the better of both teams and almost went ahead early on, but Lloris, a £12 million signing in 2012, produced a wonderful finger-tip save to touch Patson Daka’s effort against the post as Optus Sport commentator Efan Ekoku praised him.
Minutes later, Harry Kane headed Spurs into a 1-0 lead and from there it was a comfortable afternoon for the Lilywhites.
But Lloris’s intervention wound up being massive and Rodgers acknowledged its importance to Football London after the game.
He said: “A little bit frustrated and pleased at the same time because I thought we started the game well. Hugo Lloris makes a really good save to stop us going in front. Frustration with the first two goals. We’ve lacked quality in that area all season. The reaction of the players was still good.”
Son Heung-min made it 2-0 in the second half with an excellent swivelled finish, before adding a third later on with a stunning curling effort from outside the box, leaving Kasper Schmeichel with zero chance of preventing it.
Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for the Foxes in stoppage time, but it was a mere consolation.
It was a massive victory for Spurs, who piled pressure on Arsenal ahead of their trip to West Ham United at the time.
The Gunners were favourites to finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League before a ball was kicked today, but Conte’s outfit proved that they’re up for the challenge, as did Lloris.
