Tottenham and Everton were among the clubs reportedly keen on signing Ajax star Mohammed Kudus in the summer, and Ally McCoist has given his verdict on the Ghanaian on BT Sport – after he scored a stunning effort against Rangers.
Kudus, 22, joined Ajax in 2020 from Norwegian side Nordsjaelland for £8million. He has since been in and out of the Ajax squad, perhaps being a victim of his own versatility – failing to nail down a specific spot in the Ajax side.
Kudus is able to play out wide, up front, or in central midfield either as a holding midfielder, or as a no.10. But this season, he has started superbly, scoring three goals in seven games. On Wednesday night, he was superb for Ajax.
Indeed, the 16-time Ghana international scored a pile driver from the left flank – and got an assist. Ajax dispatched of Rangers to win 4-0. Back in the summer, Everton and Tottenham were linked with a move, and McCoist was impressed.
“The boy looks a real talent. He has had injury problems but he is physically strong. Great, tight with the ball at his feet, he knows how to protect it, we can saw he can finish. His goal, it is a beautiful strike,” McCoist told BT Sport.

Kudus looks a proper, proper talent – as McCoist says. He has a bit of everything and his goal proves that. Utter power, incredible speed, both with and without the ball. Kudus can score goals, and he can play in a number of positions.
Whether Tottenham or Everton move for Kudus remains to be seen. But what is clear, he will cost a pretty penny if he continues to shine in the Champions League. He has made a wonderful start to the 2022-23 season, as his price climbs.
