Everton want Mohammed Kudus but their move for the Ajax midfielder is now stalling – in part because of Manchester United chasing Antony.
The Toffees are still chasing reinforcements for Frank Lampard after taking just one point from the first three games of the new Premier League season.
A creative midfielder would be welcomed at Goodison Park, given that Lampard has already been able to bring in Amadou Onana, who can play as a holding or box-to-box player.
Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is one name in the mix for Everton, but they have also been targeting a deal for Ajax talent Mohammed Kudus.
Everton want Mohammed Kudus
Reports last week suggested that Everton were on the verge of signing Ajax midfielder Kudus on loan with an option to buy.
Five days on and Kudus still hasn’t signed for Everton, so what exactly is going on?
The Times claim that Everton thought they would have signed Kudus by now, but they have hit problems during talks with Ajax.
The Mirror add that the deal has stalled because Ajax don’t want to lose both Kudus and Antony in the same window.
Manchester United are desperate to sign winger Antony and reunite him with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
That deal is likely to cost more than £80million if it materialises, and whilst that would give Ajax money to spend, they don’t want to replace both Kudus and Antony so close to the transfer deadline.
Kudus, 22, showed huge promise in the 2020-21 season having joined from Danish side Nordsjaelland.
Four goals and three assists in 17 games was a pretty outstanding record, but he then started just four league games last season.
The Ghanaian is very skilful and an excellent dribbler, so he could really bring something different to the Everton side as a number 10.
Tottenham Hotspur are also understood to be interested in signing Kudus, but if United sign Antony, both Spurs and Everton may see their Kudus hopes come to an end.
