Thierry Henry has described Eduardo Camavinga’s performance for Real Madrid against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final as ‘outstanding’ after his transfer links to Arsenal.

The Arsenal legend handed the Man of the Match award to Vinicius Jr for his outrageous opener as Real Madrid and Manchester City recorded a 1-1 draw in the first-leg of their heavyweight European tie at the Bernabeu.

But he made sure to give Eduardo Camavinga his flowers for causing Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva many problems from left-back, despite being a midfielder by trade.

In recent months, Carlo Ancelotti has decided to play the 20-year-old as a left-sided fullback.

Despite Camavinga’s inexperience and the fact that he was never been brought up as a fullback during his youth days, he has taken to that role like a duck to water, as he proved against one of the best teams in Europe.

That’s why he caught the eye of Thierry Henry, who waxed-lyrical about the player that was linked with Arsenal during the January transfer window, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (09/05/23 at 10:25 pm).

“Camavinga and him (Vinicius Jr), I wouldn’t like to be Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva,” said Henry. “They had to do an extra job on them. 

“Vinicius Jr played in his position and we know what he can do, and he did it. But Camavinga never played at left-back in his life.

“He is doing it now for two months. He is coming into midfield. One-two. Defending. He looks strong – I would give it to Vinicius Jr (as Man of the Match), but Camavinga had an outstanding game.”

CAMAVINGA AND MADRID SHOWING LEVELS

This is what Arsenal are going to be coming up against next season and they better be ready because the quality of those in the Champions League has gone up a few levels since they were last in the competition.

When Arsenal dip into the summer transfer market, they might have to sign a few proven stars, so they can cope with the step-up.

Yes, they have a few young stars that are getting better and better in the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, but they are going to be introduced into a whole new world next season.
