Real Madrid have reportedly been offered the chance to sign AC Milan superstar and rumoured Tottenham target Rafael Leao, with Jorge Mendes keen to find a buyer for his esteemed client.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Los Blancos had been approached by the Portuguese super-agent over potentially signing the 23-year-old winger, though Madrid rejected the chance to bring in Leao based on Vinicius Junior’s role at the club and in the starting XI.

The Brazilian international is arguably the best left-sided attacker currently playing in world football, the same position that Leao has played his best football in during his time at Milan, and with the Rossoneri looking for at least €90m (£79m) for the winger, it makes sense why Madrid rejected the approach from Mendes.

Indeed, this update could come as a big boost for the likes of Tottenham, who according to Media Foot is a target for the north London club ahead of the summer transfer window. However, the winger has seemingly already told Spurs he won’t be moving to the English capital anytime soon.

In a recent interview, the winger revealed that he isn’t a fan of London as a city, seemingly putting a halt on any plans of a move to the likes of Tottenham in the summer or in the near future. And with Madrid rejecting the chance to sign Leao, the race has been blown wide open.

With a contract that expires in 2024, Leao is expected to leave Milan if the Rossoneri fail in their attempt to sign the winger down to a new deal. And with Madrid now seemingly out of the race for the forward, it will be interesting to see where the Portuguese star ends up post-San Siro.

Madrid’s rationale for rejecting the chance to sign Leao makes a lot of sense, with Los Blancos keen to add in other areas of the pitch as adding another world-class winger to their ranks would have been a puzzling move in a playing sense. And with Tottenham also out of the picture, Spurs’ rivals could outside of London could be beaming with joy.

As we know, Leao is likely to attract more interest from across the continent as we inch towards the summer transfer window, and for Premier League sides, there could now be a chance to sign the winger with Madrid now out of the running for the 23-year-old superstar.
