Arsenal concluded their pre-season fixtures with a 1-0 loss against north London rivals Tottenham, and Albert Sambi Lokonga was a notable winner during the summer friendlies.
The summer signing from R.S.C. Anderlecht was impressive yet again for the Gunners as the Belgian international shone for Mikel Arteta’s side across multiple games for his new club.
Lokonga started alongside Granit Xhaka for Arsenal in the midfield and was imperious in the centre of the park. With Thomas Partey out injured, there’s a good chance that the 21-year-old will start next Friday against Brentford.
Fellow summer signing Ben White also made his first unofficial start for Arsenal, with the Brighton defender coming off in the second half after a solid performance against Tottenham.
Despite an impressive performance from the summer signings, Heung-min Son’s sole goal was enough for Tottenham to secure a 1-0 win in the two clubs’ final pre-season games before the start of the Premier League.
Indeed, it was a good run out for the Gunners ahead of what will be a massive season for Arsenal as well as Arteta.
With no European football to contest with, a return to the top-six will be a requirement for the north London side.
Indeed, Lokonga will feature heavily for Arsenal after an impressive pre-season. And on social media, many fans were pleased with the midfielder’s performance against their north London rivals.
