RB Leipzig set £88m asking price for Josko Gvardiol amid PL interest

RB Leipzig have reportedly set Josko Gvardiol’s asking price at €100m (£88m) amid growing interest from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham.

According to Bild, the Bundesliga side are willing to sell the Croatian international for just below his €112m (£98m) release clause, with Tottenham listed as one of the clubs chasing Gvardiol as City and Liverpool have also been credited as interested parties.

Gvardiol has enjoyed an explosive 2022/23 season with the centre-back starring for Croatia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and also acting as a key player for Leipzig, who up until their 7-0 loss in the UEFA Champions League to City had enjoyed a good season.

And as a result, interest has spiked in Gvardiol, with Leipzig seemingly lowering their asking price for the centre-back to ensure they can sell on the 20-year-old for a guaranteed profit, with the Premier League trio all likely to be tempted by the £88m transfer fee.

Indeed, all three clubs are looking to sign a young centre-back in the summer, and with Gvardiol arguably the best possible player in this category, the defender could be set to become the most expensive transfer in his position in the history of football.

Whilst £88m might seem like an astronomical asking price for Gvardiol, the defender could be worth it for City, Liverpool and Tottenham, who could all view the Leipzig wonderkid as their star centre-back for many years to come.

Gvardiol asking price will be matched this summer by Premier League club

Gvardiol’s stock has risen greatly this season, and whilst Leipzig want a world-record £88m for the defender, there’s already a general feeling that a club, most likely City, will match this asking price given just how good the youngster has been.

With Liverpool and Tottenham also interested and likely to have the money to spend big on a single player, the race to sign Gvardiol could be tighter than expected, with the defender a figure who could start for a top club for many years to come.
