The Tottenham Hotspur striker has been sensational this season.

New Jordan coach Ray Wilkins speaks during a press conference after an International Friendly match between Jordan and South Korea at King Abdullah Stadium on November 14, 2014 in Amman,...

Ray Wilkins was a guest on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily programme on Wednesday 27th December, and responded to a question asking him if Spurs hitman Harry Kane can be mentioned alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the world’s best players.

The 24-year-old has been in sensational form for Tottenham this season, scoring 24 goals in 24 outings in all competitions thus far, and he has already broken two goalscoring records.

His 56 goals for club and country in 2017 saw him finish as the continent’s most prolific goalscorer, two clear of Lionel Messi, whilst his tally of 39 Premier League goals in the same year broke Alan Shearer’s previous record of 36.

Wilkins was a guest on Sky Sports Premier League Daily programme on Wednesday December 27th, and insisted that Kane deserves to be mentioned alongside the mercurial Argentine:

New Aston Villa assistant coach Ray Wilkins looks on before the pre season friendly between Walsall and Aston Villa at Banks' Stadium on July 25, 2015 in Walsall, England.

Messi has scored 54 playing in La Liga, and Kane has managed 56 in England. I think it’s a phenomenal what he has done. He finishes with both feet, plays every game, I think we can start putting him in that bracket (best striker in the world).”

The England international will be looking to carry his fine form from 2017 into 2018.

Next up on the agenda for Spurs is a trip to rock-bottom Swansea City, and it would take a brave man to bet against the 24-year-old from picking up where he left off against the Saints yesterday.
