Rasmus Hojlund grew frustrated during his two years at Manchester United, feeling he didn’t get enough help from those around him on the pitch.

Still contracted to United, the 23-year-old striker is currently spending this season on loan with Napoli, who recently won Serie A.

Back in Italy, the Denmark international seems to be enjoying his time under Antonio Conte, having reached double figures for goals across all competitions.

Six of those have come in Serie A, three in the Champions League, and one in the Supercoppa Italiana.

The loan deal included an obligation to buy clause set at £38m, but it only activates if Napoli qualify for the Champions League.

Currently third in Serie A, Napoli are on track, though Juventus and Roma are close behind.

Rasmus Hojlund questioned lack of service at Man Utd

Hojlund’s struggles at United are well documented, and the environment didn’t seem to offer much room for him to develop either.

When he arrived as a 20-year-old, Anthony Martial was the only other striker in the squad, but injuries meant Martial wasn’t a regular presence either.

That left Hojlund without any real guidance or mentorship in the forward role.

He was thrown into the lineup without much support. By his second year, he faced similar issues, and there were growing voices saying that his teammates weren’t giving him enough service.

“There was talk of players not passing him [Hojlund] and that was true,” Wheeler told Stretford Paddock.

“That was true. He went to the coaching staff about it and he said whether that was to do with the fallout with Dalot around the Copenhagen game and that kind of kicked on to Bruno.

“I don’t know, but there were allegations around that but certainly he had concerns that the players were not passing to him.”

No one from inside the club has confirmed this publicly, so it remains just an allegation at this stage.

Rasmus Hojlund matches last season’s total in Napoli colours

Across the entire 2024/25 campaign, Hojlund managed just 10 goals from 52 appearances.

Of those, only four came in the Premier League, though he did find better form in Europe, scoring six times in 15 Europa League outings.

This season at Napoli, Hojlund has already matched that total with 10 goals from just 29 appearances.

It looks likely that he’ll exceed last year’s tally before the current campaign is over.
