Newcastle United are planning how to spend their new wealth after last week’s takeover, and may turn to Juventus to try and secure a transfer for Adrien Rabiot, per Calciomercato.

The Magpies’ new Saudi-led ownership want to strengthen the ranks at St James’ Park in the upcoming windows. They have many players under consideration, and have now added Rabiot to their list of potential midfield targets.

Juventus want to sell Rabiot in order to fund their own activity in upgrading Massimiliano Allegri’s engine room. The Bianconeri admire Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek and Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, but cannot afford either without making sales.

Juventus are open to parting with Rabiot amid interest from Newcastle in a transfer, as he never settled in Turin. The Frenchman has struggled with injuries since joining for free after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. His personality has also not taken him to great heights.

Additionally, Allegri believes Van de Beek or Tchouameni would be a technical upgrade on the 26-year-old. So, Rabiot would lose the role he has carved out at the Allianz Stadium, even if he stayed. The midfielder has started all seven available games so far this season.

With Rabiot also out of contract in 2023, Juventus want to sell while the Newcastle target has a market value. While also taking his €7m-a-year (£114k-a/w) wage off of their books in either the January window or next summer.

Should Newcastle target Rabiot transfer amid doubtful Juventus future?

Juventus midfielder Rabiot could be an interesting option for Newcastle to explore in their first transfer windows under new ownership. While his efforts have been inconsistent in Turin, the Frenchman would improve the quality currently available on Tyneside.

Andrea Pirlo hailed the 22-cap maestro while in charge of the Bianconeri last term. He said, via Goal: “He is a complete player. I have rarely seen someone so strong, both physically and technically. He doesn’t even know the potential for improvement he can have.”

At 26, Rabiot has plenty of time to fulfil Pirlo’s expectations at Newcastle, if they pursue a transfer with Juventus. Adding another talented component to the engine room, after Steve Bruce’s £25m deal with Arsenal for Joe Willock this summer.
