Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Chelsea attacker and UEFA Champions League winner Timo Werner.
According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, the Magpies are eager on signing the 47-capped Germany international. Werner has struggled for form with the Blues since arriving last year from RB Leipzig.
What is more, Werner shares the same agent as Newcastle defender Fabian Schar, who has become a favourite at St. James Park since signing for the club in 2018.
As well as Werner, Falk claims that Newcastle are keen on both FC Barcelona outcast Phillippe Coutinho and Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule, who the Toon want to sign on a free next summer.
With Newcastle now one of the richest clubs in football, any player could be a potential target. Yet Werner might be a stretch too far for the Magpies. Even with the attacker sharing the same agent as Schar.
After all, Werner joined Chelsea only 12 months ago. And whilst the attacker has been ridiculed by supporters for some of his performances, it is unlikely the Blues will be willing to sell the forward.
Newcastle should avoid Werner signing
Indeed, the German international would be a big-name player which could signal a new era for Newcastle. Yet thinking realistically, Bruce’s side have bigger issues in the squad than a new striker.
It is easy to forget that, when fully fit, Callum Wilson is one of the most reliable goalscorers in the Premier League. And improving the quality behind him rather than replacing him should be the main priority for Newcastle, rather than signing Werner.
