Rangers under-18s have made it a double title success for the Light Blues this season after a 3-1 win over St. Mirren this afternoon clinched the Club Academy Scotland league title.
Goals from Charlie Lindsay, Arron Lyall and Rory Wilson sealed the championship for David McCallum’s side, adding to the 2019/20 success in the same competition.
The title win guarantees the Gers will be playing European football next season, securing a place in the UEFA Youth League – regardless of whether the first-team qualifies for the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Rangers made their debut in the competition two seasons ago, eventually being knocked out by Atletico Madrid, and were due to play in it again in the season just finished before UEFA pulled the plug due to Coronavirus concerns.
It’s likely the bulk of the squad involved in the title success will make up the core of the squad involved in the Lowland League next season.
Dominance at youth level for Rangers
Rangers have been really impressive at this level in recent years and the Gers will be hoping they can start to push some of the young stars who are dominating at youth level into the first-team squad.
Nathan Patterson has already made the jump over the last 18 months and Leon King has been on the fringes of the squad, making a couple of first-team appearances this season.
With the likes of Charlie Lindsay regularly impressing, the young striker will be one who will be hoping he can follow in their footsteps.
