Umar Sadiq looks Borussia Dortmund-bound in a move that will surely leave many Rangers fans absolutely baffled.

Rangers signed Sadiq back in the summer of 2018, taking him on loan from Italian side Roma.

Sadiq was seen as something of a wildcard.

Rangers had a first-choice striker in Alfredo Morelos and had signed an experienced Scottish Premiership striker in Kyle Lafferty.

Sadiq was a low-risk punt for Rangers and it really didn’t work out at all.

Sadiq played just four times for Rangers, only once in the league and failed to score.

Steven Gerrard axed Sadiq from Rangers pretty quickly, sending him back to Roma in January 2019.

The Nigerian had a fairly uneventful loan spell at Perugia after leaving Rangers, but things started to turn then.

Sadiq hit 17 goals in 39 games on loan at Partizan Belgrade. Six goals in 13 games as a permanent Partizan player resulted in a move to Almeria.

Sadiq was effectively signed as a replacement for Darwin Nunez, who left Almeria for Benfica in 2020 and is now a Liverpool star.

41 goals in 81 games for Almeria is a hugely impressive record for Sadiq, and a big move away could now be on the cards.

BSN Sports in Nigeria report that Sadiq is on the verge of a huge €30million (£25million) move to join Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga giants signed Sebastien Haller this summer, but he has been ruled out for several months after surgery on a testicular tumour.

Karim Adeyemi has arrived too, but Dortmund want a more classic centre forward to replace the impact expected of Haller.

Sadiq certainly fits that bill but splashing a big fee on a third striker in a few months is something of a surprise.

A loan with a view to a permanent move may make more sense for Dortmund, but if Sadiq joins the German side, Rangers fans will wonder just how he struggled so badly at Ibrox.
