Michael Beale has told Tuesday’s press conference – as per Rangers TV – that Morgan Whittaker is a player that he is certainly “aware of”, amid reports that Rangers have tabled a bid for the £2million-rated star ahead of an Ibrox move.

Whittaker, 22, joined Plymouth on loan from Swansea City in the summer – after scoring five goals in 22 appearances for his parent club. The loan was scheduled for the entire season. But Swansea have recalled him due to his form.

Dropping down a division to League One to sign on loan for Plymouth, he clocked up 31 appearances for the third-tier outfit during the first half of the season. In that time, he scored nine goals and laid on seven assists, as a no.10.

He can play as a striker, attacking midfield or out wide. The Sun claim that Rangers have tabled a fee of £900,000 for the one-time England U20 star. However, that has been rejected by Swansea – who rate Whittaker at around £2m.

Beale was asked about a move for Whittaker in his latest press conference on Tuesday. Rangers are in action on Wednesday night, against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Beale says that Whittaker is a player that Rangers are aware of.

“He’s a player that we know, he’s a good player. There’s no update on that yet, and he’s just come back off a loan to his parent club. That is because his parent club think he has done very well. He’s a Swansea player,” Beale said.

“Certainly, he is a player that I’m aware of from working down south, knowing his background. We’re looking at all the areas, but we want to bring in more goals. We have had injuries in the front line. We need goalscorers in the building.”

Rangers do have players in a similar mould to Whittaker. The likes of Malik Tillman, Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield. But Whittaker is a player that can also play as a striker and is showing enormous potential. Anything up to £2m is cheap.

The issue Rangers have in pulling off a deal for Whittaker is that Swansea are under no pressure to sell. The attacker has a contract at Swansea until the summer of 2025. Rangers are also in talks to sign Norwich City star Todd Cantwell.
