Derek Ferguson has told Open Goal that it would be a “no-brainer” for Rangers to lure Kevin Nisbet to Ibrox this month, with the Scotland striker in stunning form since his return to action from injury – scoring seven goals in six.

Nisbet, 25, has returned from an ACL injury to shine for Lee Johnson’s Hibernian. Playing six times since overcoming the injury after the World Cup break, he has netted seven goals. Five of which, have come in his last two outings.

The 10-time Scotland star has suitors. With Celtic set to sell Giorgos Giakoumakis – as per Fabrizio RomanoThe Sun report that Celtic are looking at Nisbet. If the Greece international does go, Ange Postecoglou will need to replace him.

But with Alfredo Morelos struggling for form and out of contract at the end of the season, Ferguson says Nisbet would be ideal for his old club. He told Open Goal it would be a “no-brainer” for Rangers to sign the Celtic transfer target.

“He’s at a good age, he is maturing, he’s getting better. Aye, it’s a no-brainer, it really is,” Ferguson began. “He scored a hat-trick, it’s a no-brainer. I’d take him in a heartbeat. I saw him at Thistle, Dunfermline – I’ve always liked him.

“He is more than just a goalscorer. He is physical, he runs the channels, run behind, come short, there’s a lot to like about Nisbet,” Ferguson said when discussing Morelos’ form and the need for the Ibrox club to sign a striker.

Rangers do need a striker. Even if Morelos was bang in form and Antonio Colak was injury free, the Gers would still need a third option. But with Morelos out of contract and Colak struggling to overcome injury, Nisbet is a necessity.

Hibs will be desperate to keep their star man. He is on fire and dragging Johnson’s side through what has been a tricky season, with plenty of criticism coming for their work in the transfer window. Can Rangers get him? It looks unlikely.
