Rangers are now reportedly thinking about terminating Josh McPake’s contract at Ibrox with the Scottish giants seeing no future for the winger at the club.

According to Football Scotland, the 20-year-old attacker could soon walk from Rangers for nothing with the Gers contemplating the idea of ripping up McPake’s deal, with the youngster currently out on loan with League 2 side Tranmere Rovers.

Once viewed as one of the club’s most exciting talents, McPake’s development has stalled in the past two seasons since making the move from youth football to the senior game, with the forward spending two years in the EFL on three different loan spells.

Despite playing an impressive amount of English football for a Rangers academy graduate, the Scottish club themselves are not convinced that McPake has the quality to make the grade under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

And as per Football Scotland, Rangers could now release McPake following reports that the Bears were already looking to offload the 20-year-old in the summer, with interest no doubt already high in the promising Scottish talent.

Labelled as ‘really exciting’ whilst at Morcombe by then-manager Stephen Robinson, McPake will quickly find a new home in the summer should Rangers tear up his contract, and the decision, as harsh as it is, could be perfect for all parties involved.

With just 13 starts this season across both League One and League Two, McPake is in need of a club who are ready to take a risk on the versatile attacker, and Rangers simply aren’t that side given the winger’s current level of ability.

Whilst there’s no denying that McPake could develop into a top player, what the youngster needs now is a chance to play regular football for a club that are open to giving him the starts he needs to develop, something Rangers will not give next season.
