Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has praised Scott Wright’s performance in last night’s 1-1 draw with St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park after the winger scored the opener for the Light Blues – with the Gers boss saying Wright has “done everything he needs to” against Callum Davidson’s side.

Wright has found starts hard to come by since his January deadline day move from Pittodrie but was one of seven changes to the side from the weekend’s win over Celtic.

The Gers boss was also happy to see skipper James Tavernier come through the game unscathed as he made his return from injury after several weeks on the sidelines.

“The main positive tonight was about getting Tav some minutes and up to speed so he’s ready for the weekend (and) giving some players around the squad opportunities so they’re ready if called upon,” Gerrard told Rangers TV.

“Scott Wright has done everything he needs to do since he’s come in the door, he scored tonight and showed flashes throughout his performance.

“But we’ve been talking about him getting numbers in his game and he’s got one.

“It should have been the winner, if we’d been better in our game management and seeing the game out.”

With the Light Blues taking on St. Johnstone again this weekend at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup, they will need to perform far better if they are to keep their hopes of a domestic double alive.
