Porto’s reported pursuit of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos now appears to be contingent on Liverpool signing £34million Porto star Otavio.

According to Marca, the Portuguese side seem to have been priced out of a deal to lure the Colombian away from Ibrox and claim a deal for Otavio to head to Anfield would “unlock” the deal for El Bufalo.

Morelos has been linked with a host of clubs in recent seasons but talk over a move to Porto gathered pace after it was reported that the Colombian’s agent was in Portugal for talks over the Ibrox striker.

Reports in Portugal have also suggested the Gers are looking for a cut-price fee for the Colombian, contradicting public comments made by senior Rangers officials in the past.

Liverpool’s interest in Otavia was reported in Portugal by Correio da Manha, and he could apparently leave Porto this month for £34million.

Copa America complicating things for Rangers

If they do want to sell, they’ll need to wait for Morelos to be knocked out but if they don’t, there’s always a risk that an unhappy player isn’t quick in returning to Scotland.

While Morelos’ Rangers exit seems inevitable now, the Gers need to make sure they don’t sell themselves short on their valuation – otherwise it might just upset fans.
