Rangers star Borna Barisic has opened up on the back injury that almost ended his Euro 2020 campaign before it had even started, and Gers fans will be delighted to hear the Croatian left-back is back at 100%.
The Ibrox defender missed Croatia’s opening two group games at Euro 2020 before coming off the bench in the final group game against Scotland at Hampden.
Barisic had only just returned to fitness after his season at Rangers was halted prematurely and had featured in two pre-Euro 2020 friendlies before being hit with the “unusual” back injury.
“Of course, when I had my first injury at Rangers against Celtic, I was worried about the Euros, I was worried about the condition I’d be in when I came to Croatia,” Barisic said, as quoted by Glasgow Live.
“I managed to fix that and came in good condition. But, unfortunately, I had an unusual injury with my back and that messed with my plans a bit.
“In my second training session when I came to Rovinj, I injured my back and had problems since then. I managed to briefly fix that, but then it returned.
“Thank God, everything is fine now, everything is good.
“I played those 20 minutes against Scotland and managed to do my part a bit and help the team qualify for the next round.”
Croatian’s return to fitness key for Rangers
With the Gers returning to the Champions League this season, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be delighted to have seen Barisic return to fitness.
The Croatian international has been key for Rangers over the last two seasons and is one of the most consistent performers in the Gers’ side.
The clash with Spain could see him return to the starting XI on Monday for Croata, and Rangers fans will be hoping the left-back can help his country reach the last eight and continue their Euro 2020 adventure.
