Rangers striker Kemar Roofe has made his long-awaited debut for Jamaica but it didn’t go to plan for the Ibrox star as the Reggae Boyz lost 3-0 to Panama.

Roofe was one of a number of British-based players targeted by the Jamaican national team over the last two years as they look to players like the Rangers star to revive their fortunes.

The Rangers ace made his debut alongside West Ham striker Michail Antonio but still fell to a shambolic 3-0 defeat.

Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying campaign has got off to a disastrous start, losing to favourites Mexico in their opening game and sitting rooted to the bottom of their group.

Roofe almost scored on his debut before goals from Andres Andrade, Rolando Blackburn and Cecilo Waterman sealed the win and left the Rangers star unlikely to want to remember his international debut.

While Jamaica can still turn things around and qualify for next year’s World Cup in Qatar, they will need to do it quickly if they are to have any chance of reaching the finals.

Next up is a clash with Costa Rica in the early hours of Thursday morning – with Roofe set to return home due to the nation’s status as a Red List country for travelling back to the UK.
