Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos finally made his Copa America debut for Colombia, coming off the bench in the clash with Peru in the early hours of this morning, but El Bufalo won’t have been happy as his side crashed to a shock 2-1 defeat.
The Ibrox striker was a late replacement for Stefan Medina as Reindaldo Rueda’s side chased an equaliser, coming off the bench with 80 minutes played,
Sergio Peña opened the scoring for the Peruvians in the 17th minute before Miguel Borja drew Colombia level eight minutes into the second half.
However, an own goal from Yerry Mina soon afterwards left the Rangers star and his Colombia teammates scrambling to avoid their first defeat of the 2021 Copa America.
They face hosts Brazil in the final game on Thursday and Morelos will be hoping he is given the nod to start after his brief cameo against Peru.
With four of the five teams in the group qualifying for the next round, Colombia should be safely through to the last eight – but there place isn’t quite assured yet.
The Rangers striker missed the 2019 edition of the competition and has been keen to add to his solitary international goal; and with the likes of James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao not in the squad, Colombia have looked short of firepower.
