Northern Irish striker Kyle Lafferty has landed his 14th club in 16 years after agreeing on a one-year deal with Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta – and fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief at the former Rangers star’s latest club.
Lafferty is no stranger to stints abroad having played in Switzerland, Italy, Turkey and Norway in addition to spells with clubs in Scotland and England, with some Kilmarnock fans particularly upset after he apparently claimed he left Rugby Park to be closer to his family.
Lafferty had two spells at Rangers as well as stints with Sion, Palermo, Norwich City, Rizespor, Birmingham City, Hearts, Sarpsborg, Sunderland and Reggina in his well-travelled career.
The former Rangers striker scored 13 goals in 13 games for Killie as they failed to avoid relegation to the Championship and became involved in a war of words with the Ayrshire side over his exit.
After turning down the chance to join Motherwell, Lafferty’s move to the Larnaca-based side raised plenty of eyebrows on Twitter.
Temur Ketsbaia’s side finished fourth in the Cypriot First Division last season.
Hearts and Kilmarnock fans were particularly vocal about the 81-times capped Lafferty’s move – although there were some supporters amongst the critics, as one or two backed his decision to head abroad again.
