Derby County’s new manager Frank Lampard is reportedly willing to sell captain Curtis Davies for £3million this summer, and Steven Gerrard should use his connections with the new Rams boss to jump to the front of the queue for the defender.

The Daily Mirror claimed in their live transfer blog (Wednesday, 13:56pm) that if Lampard loses 33-year-old Davies at Pride Park, he will move to land John Terry.

Terry is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer as the Villans desperately look to free up some cash, and he could now leave the club and reunite with Lampard at Derby if the Rams fail to keep Davies.

Steven Gerrard shakes hands with Dave King as he is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

For Lampard to afford Terry’s big wages, he may have to sell Davies and will do so for a fee of £3million, according to the report. Stoke City are said to be keen on Davies, but Gerrard should throw his hat into the ring for the experienced rock.

The Gers are in desperate need for a centre-backs this summer, with Russell Martin returning to Norwich City after his loan spell while David Bates has moved to German side Hamburg. It leaves just Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso and Ross McCrorie.

But McCrorie is preferred in midfield while Alves’ future is in doubt after being linked to Portuguese side Vitoria. Though the Gers are said to be closing in on a £3.5million deal for Brighton’s Connor Goldson, they still need defensive additions.

Frank Lampard reporttd for BT Sport during The Emirates FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on May 19, 2018 in London, England.

Indeed, it should see the Gers consider luring Davies to Ibrox for just £3million this summer, forming a perfect partnership with Goldson that will see young and elder combine at the back.

Davies has huge experience in both the Premier League and Championship after spells with Hull City, West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City, as well as Derby.

It should convince Gerrard to use his friendship with former England teammate Lampard to sell Davies to the Ibrox club and form a fearsome defensive unit that even Celtic would struggle to get past.
