Rangers are set to lose Rory Wilson and Aston Villa will only need to pay £300,000 to bring the teenage striker to Villa Park this summer.

The Gers appear to have a couple of talented young players emerging in Leon King and Alex Lowry.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will hope to get more out of the Rangers academy after the likes of Kai Kennedy and Josh McPake saw their development stall.

Yet it now looks like Rangers will lose another young talent just like they did with Billy Gilmour to Chelsea in 2017.

Rangers are set to lose Rory Wilson

Striker Rory Wilson has been shining in Rangers’ youth ranks and unsurprisingly made himself a wanted man.

The Daily Star reported in March that Liverpool, Leeds United, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Manchester City all want Wilson.

All of those clubs are missing out though because Wilson is set to join Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.

The Birmingham Mail reported in April that Wilson’s move to Villa was ‘done and dusted’.

Gerrard will know all about the top Rangers talents and is now raiding his former club with a deal for Wilson.

Football Scotland now report that Rangers did offer Wilson new terms but the striker decided to reject them.

Rangers may not be happy with the fee either as it’s stated that the Gers will receive just £300,000 in compensation for Wilson.

That’s small change to Villa as they pay a development fee for Wilson, with the fee low because of cross-border contract rules.

We have seen Rangers exploit these rules to their benefit by signing the likes of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey on the cheap.

It now looks set to hit Rangers on the other side as Villa prepare to pay a fairly low six-figure fee for the teenage striker.
