Rangers are set to lose teenager Rory Wilson after the Aston Villa target indicated that he would be leaving Ibrox at the end of the season.

The Gers, just like any other club, would love to have a number of players rising from their youth team into the first team.

It has been a struggle of late though with the likes of Stephen Kelly, Kai Kennedy and Josh McPake failing to really kick on.

There are high hopes for Alex Lowry, who Giovanni van Bronckhorst seems to have taken a shine to since arriving at Ibrox.

Another top young talent is striker Wilson, who has been banging in the goals for Rangers and Scotland youth teams.

Even just last week the 16-year-old scored the winner against Celtic Under-18’s, handing Rangers a 2-1 victory.

Wilson’s goalscoring exploits have attracted interest though. The Daily Star reported in March that Leeds United Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle United all wanted Wilson.

The biggest claim came from the Birmingham Mail though as they claimed last week that Wilson’s move to Aston Villa is ‘done and dusted’.

There has been no confirmation of that kind of deal but it does seem that Wilson is gearing up to leave Rangers.

The Daily Record now claim that Rangers want to keep Wilson but he has told them he plans to move on from Ibrox this summer.

That would tie in with reports that Wilson is heading to Villa, with Rangers fans no doubt absolutely cursing Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard left Rangers for Villa back in November, taking coaches like Michael Beale, Gary McAllister and Tom Culshaw with him.

Villa have the inside track on Rangers talents and it looks like Wilson is the one they really want.

Few can blame Wilson for fancying a move to the Premier League, but whether it pays off in the long-term remains to be seen.
