Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was happier with his side’s performance against Ross County as they bested the Staggies 4-2 in Dingwall yesterday – and admits his side could have scored even more if they’d take their chances.

Goals from Joe Aribo, Connor Goldson, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield sealed the points for Rangers but they almost became a cropper when County launched a late fightback.

Gerrard confessed he’s still trying to “fine-tune” parts of his side and admitted he’s still waiting to get his full squad back available as he assessed his side’s performance at the Global Energy Stadium.

“I think that was much more like us in terms of how it looked both in and out of possession and I am a lot more happy today,” Gerrard said.

“You can see what we are trying to do out of possession quite clearly. We were really organised at times – okay, we are still trying to fine-tune that and we are still obviously waiting to get the full squad back in and settled, so we will get better in that department, but I thought we showed a lot of quality today.

“We created a lot and if James scores at the end there, it could have been one or two more.

“So going forward, we looked really dangerous. We have come away from home and got the three important points which is the main thing.”

The Light Blues now move on to Thursday’s Europa League clash with Alashkert as they look to progress to the group stage for the fourth season in a row.

Despite some poor defending handing Ross County a lifeline late on, Rangers controlled the game against the Staggies for long spells and never really looked like coming away with anything other than three points.

It is clear however that Rangers are still a fair bit away from the highs of last season and there is still much work to be done by Gerrard and his staff to get the Gers back to that sort of level.
