Rangers lost to Napoli on Wednesday and the Italian press haven’t been impressed with winger Ryan Kent’s performance for the Gers.

The Gers really need a response after a couple of chastening defeats.

A 4-0 thrashing to Celtic was bad enough but it was compounded by another 4-0 defeat with Ajax adding to the misery.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst wanted a big performance against Napoli but it ended up heaving another hefty defeat.

Rangers lost to Napoli on Wednesday

The Gers were at least in the game at 0-0 with 54 minutes on the clock but James Sands was given a second yellow card and then his marching orders.

Allan McGregor saved Piotr Zielinski’s penalty and whilst Matteo Politano scored on the rebound, the penalty had to be retaken – and McGregor saved again.

Napoli were then given another penalty and Politano finally beat McGregor.

Rangers were then in a real struggle and two more goals went in with Giacomo Raspadori and Tanguy Ndombele making it 3-0.

No goals scored and 11 goals conceded in the last three games is a major concern for Rangers and some players just aren’t at their best right now.

Winger Ryan Kent fits the bill having made a rather inauspicious start to the new season.

The 25-year-old should be one of Rangers’ go-to men in these big-game situations but he hasn’t scored a single goal all season.

The conversation around Kent is not just about his form either.

Kent is out of contract at the end of the season and Leeds United are understood to be keen on signing him after a long-term pursuit.

Kent may well move on in 2023 but if he’s trying to put himself in the show window, it isn’t exactly going well.

Tuttomercatoweb rated Kent at just 5 out of 10, stating that they could ‘hardly see’ him involved over the course of the game.

They suggested that maybe Kent wasn’t at his best because he was playing as a second striker but still just felt that he was anonymous and invisible.

Rangers need more from Kent and he himself has to show more – especially if he wants a big move in 2023.
