Rangers wanted to bring Jack Butland to Ibrox back in the summer – a player who is now heading to Manchester United.
What’s the story?
Well, the England international – who Crystal Palace signed for just £1m – is having a medical at Manchester United, according to the BBC.
That news will be sore for Rangers fans to take, as the Scottish giants seemingly came within a whisker of signing Butland back in July before he suffered a broken finger in a pre-season friendly, coincidentally against Manchester United.
It was the Scottish Sun who revealed that Rangers wanted the 29-year-old at Ibrox.
Alan Nixon added that Crystal Palace had given Butland permission to leave south London as Birmingham also monitored his situation, although the broken finger – which ruled him out for over two months – scuppered an exit.

The Crystal Palace No.1 found himself behind Vicente Guaita and Sam Johnstone regardless of his broken finger, although Manchester United have seen enough to make a move after Martin Dubravka returned to Newcastle.
If Butland passes his medical at Old Trafford, he will join the Red Devils on a six-month loan until the end of the season.
Rangers will kick themselves if Butland performs at Manchester United
If Butland impresses when deputising for David de Gea at Old Trafford, Rangers will kick themselves for failing to get a deal over the line.
At the time, we suggested that it may be worth Rangers signing Butland anyway despite his broken finger, and it is now starting to look like the Scottish giants should have done so.
The 40-year-old Allan McGregor must be replaced, and a fantastic option in the Crystal Palace No.1 was there for the taking. Rangers fans would have just been made to wait a few months to see him in action until he recovered.
Now, it looks almost impossible to sign Butland – Rangers will kick themselves if he goes on to impress for Manchester United.
