Rangers have told Jack Simpson that he is free to leave Ibrox in the January transfer window amid interest from Middlesbrough, according to The Scottish Sun.
The Scottish Sun have reported that Rangers have told defender Simpson that he is ‘free to leave before the transfer window closes’, if, of course, a suitable deal can be struck.
Middlesbrough in the Championship in England are keen on the Rangers defender, according to the report.
Boro want to sign the 25-year-old defender on loan in the January transfer window.
Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder is claimed to be an admirer of the 25-year-old.

Jack Simpson should leave Rangers for Middlesbrough
In our opinion, Simpson should leave Rangers for Middlesbrough on loan right now.
We do not think that there is no point in the English defender staying at Rangers.
The former Bournemouth is not getting much playing time, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
Steven Gerrard, then the Rangers manager and now in charge of Aston Villa in the Premier League, signed the 25-year-old defender in February 2021.
Simpson has made one start and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for the Gers so far this season.
The former Bournemouth defender has provided one assist in those games.
The Rangers no. 15 has also played once in the Scottish League Cup for the Gers this campaign.
Middlesbrough are aiming to win promotion to the Premier League, and Simpson could relish playing for the English club.

James Maxwell on his Rangers future
Meanwhile, James Maxwell has said that he may have to leave Rangers for good.
The 20-year-old left-back is on loan at Ayr United at the moment and is out of contract at Rangers in the summer of 2022.
Football Scotland quotes Maxwell as saying: “I’ve accepted the fact that I’ll probably need to leave Rangers.
“At a big club, it’s always hard to break through. I knew my chances would be limited. There’s so much pressure, especially last season when they had to stop ten in a row.”
