Glasgow Rangers are still without a manager, but who do the bookies think will take over at Ibrox?
Just one day after it seemed that Rangers’ search for their next manager was reaching a conclusion with Sky Bet listing Alex McLeish as the 1/2 favourite for the Ibrox post, there has been yet another twist in the betting market.
With the Gers’ search for their new manager into its second month now, the fact that McLeish was so clear at the top of the market appeared to be a key indication that the Scottish Premiership side were closing in on Pedro Caixinha’s permanent replacement.
However, McLeish has now drifted out to 6/5 for the post with Sky Bet and is no longer the favourite for the job – surely due to his comments to The Scottish Sun where he confirmed that there had been no contact with Rangers and he wanted to bring an end to any speculation.
That emphatic confirmation that he is not on the verge of taking the job is perhaps the reason why Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes is now back to being odds-on favourite – the position he has occupied for much of the time since Caixinha was dismissed in October.
Sky Bet list McInnes at 8/13, and he and McLeish are still well clear of any other contenders, with Frank De Boer, Graeme Murty and Michael O’Neill joint third favourite, all at 16/1.
But of course, the likelihood of McInnes getting the job also seems fairly slim right now with the Dons manager shutting down all speculation during a recent press conference, as reported by BBC Sport, so perhaps the 46-year-old becoming odds-on favourite once again is not the last twist in the betting that is to come before an appointment is made.
