Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has expressed his delight at making John Lundstram the Gers’ third signing of the summer after the Englishman signed a three-year deal at Ibrox.

The Gers have already added Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala to the squad this summer and Gerrard believes the former Sheffield United star has the “undoubted quality” to improve the Scottish champions.

Lundstram came through the Academy at Everton before making the move to Sheffield, becoming a key player in the Blades’ return to the Premier League.

After moving to Ibrox on a free transfer, Gerrard is excited to start working with Lundstram ahead of Rangers‘ title defence.

“John is a player I have known for some time and knew he would enhance our squad,” Gerrard told Rangers TV.

“Having played in the Premiership, he has the undoubted quality to enhance our midfield with his technical ability and physicality and I was impressed with his attitude and ambition when we spoke over recent weeks. John is a winner and knows what is required to succeed at a club of this stature.

“He will add steel and presence to our midfield along with his quality which makes our squad much stronger, and to procure a player of John’s profile and experience is very pleasing.

“Myself and the staff are looking forward to working with John. We know he is also very excited to get started at Rangers.”

Lundstram will really push existing Rangers midfielders on

The arrival at Lundstram should really shake up Rangers’ midfield which had become predictable in its selection while still being comfortably the best in Scotland.

Rangers will be keen to get Lundstram ready to play as quickly as possible and although a debut tonight against Partick Thistle seems incredibly unlikely, he could feature against Tranmere on Saturday.

With Gerrard promising to add some quality to his squad this summer, he has kept his word so far.
