Rangers loanee scored twice – but manager suggests he did better at the weekend.
Glasgow Rangers loanee Joe Dodoo was praised last night after netting a brace for Blackpool.
Dodoo struck twice in the Checkatrade Trophy match, showing glimpses of why Rangers bought him back in 2016.
He scored twice, with the second goal a spectacular overhead kick which had Rangers fans buzzing as well as Blackpool supporters.
The Rangers forward was praised by manager Terry McPhillips, but he did suggest that he felt Dodoo did better at the weekend.
Dodoo scored once in the weekend match with Exeter, and McPhillips said he felt Dodoo’s overall performance was at a higher level. Last night against Accrington he was substituted after an hour.
McPhillips told Blackpool’s YouTube channel: “Fair play to him. I thought he was excellent on Saturday, he’s backed it up with his goals tonight.
“His goals were really good. He didn’t do as well tonight as he did Saturday, but he is staking a claim. three goals in a game and another 60 minutes.”
McPhillips’ comments are a message for Dodoo not to get carried away by his goals and keep focusing on his overall game.
Still, three goals in his last two games is a very encouraging sign for a player who had only one goal all season before this point, so Blackpool – and Rangers – have to pleased with his most recent progress.
