It has been a frustrating transfer window for Philippe Clement as he continues his rebuild at Rangers.

The Glasgow giants secured a vital three points against Motherwell on Saturday afternoon after their season started with a 1-1 draw against Hearts.

Finishing their chances proved to be a problem once again against Motherwell with Rangers fans still yet to be convinced by Cyriel Dessers.

A new centre-forward was on Rangers’ shopping list but they have so far failed to deliver for Clement.

Lawrence Shankland has been a top striker target for the club while HITC confirmed that Lyndon Dykes has also been considered this summer.

Rangers have been left short in the striker department after Kemar Roofe’s exit and Fabio Silva returned to Wolves after his loan stint.

Clement admitted that he would have rather signed Silva on a permanent deal instead of a loan spell, but Rangers were unable to afford him at the time.

£35m flop spotted at stadium amid interest

Silva only scored six goals for Rangers during his loan spell and he didn’t exactly win over the Ibrox faithful during his time in Scotland.

He is now looking for a way out of Wolves this summer after struggling to settle at the Premier League club, and reports suggest he is closing in on a move to Italy.

According to O Jogo, Serie A side Genoa are interested in a move for Silva having shared a long-term interest in him dating back to last December.

Silva has also been linked with a move back to Portugal and he posted to his Instagram on Saturday that he was at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao to watch their match against Gil Vicente.

Silva started his career at Porto before becoming Wolves’ club-record signing in 2020 for £35million.

It is clear that Silva will move on this summer, and a return to Rangers is truly out of the equation.

Clement is still in need of a new striker, though, and time is running out before the window slams shut at the end of August.

Rangers need to reach into their pocket and sign a new centre-forward otherwise their title challenge could be over before it even began.
