Rangers loanee Rhys Breen has gotten his spell in the United States with Orange County off to a winning start as the defender played 90 minutes for OCSC in the 1-0 win over rivals Sacramento Republic last night.

Breen and midfielder Jack Thomson have headed stateside for the 2021 USL season as they followed the likes of Cammy Palmer and danny Finlayson in moving to California on loan with the Gers’ partner club.

Having missed the season opener against Tacoma Defiance last week, Breen made his debut at the heart of defence beside former Ibrox defender Rob Kiernan.

Chris Wehan scored the only goal of the game 33 minutes in as Brendan Cloutier’s side picked up their first points of the new campaign.

Breen has spent time on loan at Partick Thistle and Queen of the South over the last 12 months while Thomson most recently spent a few months with League One side Clyde.

There should be plenty more opportunities for the Ibrox youngsters to get minutes under their belt as they look to force their way into Steven Gerrard’s plans at Rangers.

Next up of OCSC is a California derby against LA Galaxy II next weekend as they look to build on their first three points of the new USL Championship campaign.
