Rangers Academy star Kai Kennedy ended rumours over his short-term future by completing a move to Championship side Dunfermline on a season-long loan – and thinks heading to the Fifers can help him push his way into Steven Gerrard’s first-team plans at Ibrox.
Kennedy has reportedly been targeted by Premier League West Ham but headed to East End Park rather than London’s East End when he signed on with Peter Grant’s Pars and the Rangers kid is eyeing his Gers future up by moving to Fife.
“You go out on loan to prepare and be ready to go back and be part of Rangers first team. That is my ambition,” Kennedy told the Pars’ website.
Fellow Rangers Academy star Lewis Mayo spent last season at East End Park, impressing as Stevie Crawford’s side came close to winning promotion before the former Scotland star’s surprise resignation.
Kennedy thinks his Ibrox colleague is a better player for the experience of spending a season in the Championship and insists that leaving Rangers on loan was the right choice for his career, adding: “He did well and you can tell that he is a better player for it.
I think going on loan was the best thing to do.
The Scotland youth international could make his Dunfermline debut tomorrow when the Pars face Stenhousemuir in the Premier Sports Cup.
After impressing in the Championship last season with Raith Rovers and Inverness CT, the 19-year-old will be looking to build on that and be one of the standout players in the division and help push Dunfermline towards the title.
Having seen his loan move to Inverness ended early last winter, a series of strong performances in the opening months of the season could even see him recalled and sent to a club at a higher level for the rest of the campaign, wryly concluding; “I want to win every game and play well, hopefully I can do that. Whatever happens in January, happens.”
