Former Rangers star David Robertson insists Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard ‘won’t be fazed’ by the Champions League qualfiers and thinks his experience of playing in the competition for Liverpool will help him take the pressure off his players.

Rangers will discover who they face in Monday’s draw for the Third Qualifying Round and Robertson admits it will be very different to when the Light Blues first played in the competition in 1992.
“Steven may still be an inexperienced manager but his experience of playing in the Champions League has certainly proved its worth with everything he’s achieved at Ibrox so far,” Robertson said [Daily Record].
“He won’t be fazed by any of this.
“When we first reached the Champions League in 1992 under Walter Smith, it was all new to us. But Steven has been playing in this competition all through his career.
“He’ll know what the players go through and will know how to take some of that pressure away from them.”
Champions League qualification huge for Rangers this season
Securing qualification for the Champions League group stage would be a huge boost for Rangers – both on and off the pitch.

The financial benefits that will come with reaching the groups would really help Rangers kick on and build on the success of last season.
There’s no doubt Gerrard’s experience should also help the players but after reaching the last 16 of the Europa League in the last seasons should also stand them in good stead.
