Rangers star Nathan Patterson is out of Scotland‘s international with Austria later this week as the Ibrox defender sparks concerns over his fitness ahead of the Gers’ clash with St. Johnstone this weekend.

Patterson made his first start for the national team as they beat Moldova on Saturday night at Hampden but is one of three players out of Steve Clarke’s squad for the clash with the Austrians, joining Ryan Fraser and Kenny McLean on the sidelines.

Patterson has only just returned to action following a spell in isolation as a result of positive Covid tests at Rangers last month.

That saw him miss the Old Firm win over Celtic as Filip Helander’s goal sunk their bitter rivals.

With no word yet on why Patterson, McLean or Fraser are out of the squad, Rangers will be hoping it is nothing which keeps him out of the trip to Perth on Saturday.

Skipper James Tavernier will return to training today for Rangers so the Gers will have cover if Patterson is unavailable.

After making an impressive start to his international career, many expected Patterson to retain his place in the side against the Austrians as Scotland look to salvage their hopes of reaching the World Cup next year.
