Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is “confident” the Light Blues will get a new deal agreed with colossus Connor Goldson and confirmed talks are ongoing as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

Goldson is free to talk to other clubs about a move from the end of the year and Rangers fans are worried they could lose the title-winning stopper on a Bosman after wowing them since arriving in 2018.
Gerrard praised the former Brighton star’s performances since signing for Rangers and confessed there’s no urgent rush to tie Goldson down to a new deal.
“I’ve got a fantastic personal relationship with Connor,” Gerrard told Sky Sports. “I brought him up here three years ago and he’s done an incredible job. He’s got stronger and stronger each season.
“He’s very comfortable here, he’s a big leader. We’ve given him big responsibility making him vice-captain of this football club.
“He’s very settled and talks are ongoing. I’m confident we can get it to where we need to get it.
“But at the same time, we will respect Connor’s space. There’s no need to rush.
“We’ve got that strong personal relationship, his advisers are in touch with the club and things are moving forward.
“Hopefully sooner rather than later we can get him tied down because he’s very important to the team, the club and to me personally because he’s robust, he’s a top player and a leader.
“As a manager, those are the type of players you need to rely on.”
Goldson’s performances integral to Rangers’ ongoing success

Last season, Goldson played every minute of every game for Rangers and his presence in the defence was vital in the Light Blues’ title triumph.
Gerrard’s confidence over getting a new deal done for him will reassure Rangers fans but until they see an official announcement, they will still be concerned he could walk away.
Losing Goldson would be a big blow even if the Rangers hierarchy land a big fee for him so it is easy to see why fans are worried about losing him for free.
