Rangers loanee Jake Hastie is looking to go back to Ibrox this summer and prove he deserves a future with Steven Gerrard’s champions – and insists the emergence of Nathan Patterson is motivating him to salvage his Gers career.

Hastie has spent the season on loan at Motherwell but has struggled to impress at Fir Park as Stephen Robinson then Graham Alexander opted against using the winger regularly.

After failing to make any real impact at Ibrox in his two years as a Rangers player, Hastie has a point to prove when he links up with Gerrard and his squad for pre-season.

“I’m just going to go back to Rangers and see what happens,” Hastie said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I want to go back and prove myself, definitely, 100 per cent.

“There has been feedback from Rangers, they always come out and watch the games I’ve played and assess them, stuff like that.”

After watching from afar as Rangers ran away with the title this season, Hastie has been impressed with the style shown by the Light Blues.

The wideman has stayed in touch with some of his Ibrox team-mates while he’s been out on loan, admitting they’ve been “brilliant” this season.

While his loan stint at Motherwell hasn’t exactly been a success, Hastie insists he’s learned one valuable lesson at Fir Park as he aims to follow Patterson’s lead and establish himself as a first-team player at Rangers.

“I’m buzzing for them this year for them to win the league. I’m really happy for them,” he added.

“They’ve done it in style. They’ve been brilliant this season, absolutely brilliant.

“I’ve spoken to a few of the boys, especially in group chats, and I’ve wished them all the best for the big games that have come up for them. They’ve been brilliant.

“The success of Nathan Patterson encourages me to go back and get in the team.

“I will keep my head down, work hard and see what happens.

“I’ve learned at Motherwell this season that sometimes you need to keep your head down and keep working hard and your chance will eventually come.”

Rangers aren’t exactly short of option in the wide positions with the likes of Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe, Ianis Hagi, Scott Wright and Joe Aribo already competing for starts.

Hastie will face a massive fight to prove he can displace any of them and get regular minutes, and it wouldn’t be a shock if the winger leaves Rangers on loan again this summer.
