Bundesliga new boys VfL Bochum will “step up” their pursuit of Rangers star Ianis Hagi, according to a report, as a host of clubs look to lure the Romanian star away from Ibrox, 12 months after making his move to Ibrox permanent.

According to Romanian outlet Playtech, Hagi has been tracked by the Germans all season as he helped Steven Gerrard’s side secure the club’s first Premiership title in a decade.

After securing promotion to the Bundesliga, Bochum are now set to test Rangers’ resolve with a bid for the son of Romanian icon Gheorghe.

Despite not being a regular starter for Gerrard’s side, Hagi played a key role in the title success as he recorded 15 assists and eight goals in 45 appearances.

Italian side Lazio and Turkish giants Galatasaray have also been credited with an interest in the Ibrox number 7 but Rangers will be looking for a massive profit on the £3million they paid for the 22-year-old last year.

Rangers star has been vocal about his future plans

Hagi has publicly spoken about his desire to play for Gala at some stage in his career but insisted he is very happy in Glasgow as Rangers prepare for a crack at qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League.

The Ibrox star is set for a showdown with the club over this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo with the Romanian named in his country’s squad for the Games and Rangers opting not to release him.

Hagi has made it clear he wants to play in the Olympics and aim to win a medal but with the Gers’ Champions League qualifiers clashing with the Olympics fixtures, Rangers want their player to stay in Scotland.
