Rangers star Ianis Hagi has made no secret of his desire to play for Turkish giants Galatasaray in the future – and the Romanian could get his wish sooner rather than later after Turkish media reported the Istanbul side are interested in signing him.

Hagi was born in the Turkish capital while his dad was plying his trade for Gala, growing up a fan of Lions, and has spoken several times in the past about how he’d love the chance to play for them.

Turkish outlet Yeni Safak claim Hagi is on a list of targets drawn up by Galatasaray as a new ruling forces clubs to look at signing homegrown players.

Super Lig clubs now must name no fewer than eight home-grown players in their matchday squad, with Hagi counting as homegrown despite representing Romania at international level.

Hagi’s Ibrox future could be up in the air

Hagi joined Rangers at the beginning of 2020, initially on loan from Belgian side Genk, before signing a contract until 2024 that summer.

The Ibrox star has been linked with moves to the likes of Lazio and is set for a face-off with the club over his wish to represent his country in this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

That could see him ruled out of important Champions League qualifiers as the Gers have to do without Kemar Roofe and Glen Kamara through suspension.

While the Romanian international has played a vital role this season, the Gers may look to cash in on him if they receive big enough offers.

After spending £3million to sign Hagi permanently 12 months ago, the Light Blues would surely be looking at four or five times that amount if they were to sell now.
